We got home yesterday afternoon. What an experience!! the only time i really freaked out was a little on the car ride to the hospital. When i got there, amazingly i wasn't apprehensive at all…….the peace that surpasses all understanding. after some monitoring and prelim stuff, i went into the operating room. the anestheologist, Warren, did the spinal so i was numb from the chest down to my toes. that was a crazy sensation!! hearing them work on me and not feeling a thing was sooo wierd! the only time i cried was when i heard Vahn's first cry. after that it got kinda rough for a few minutes. i had a hard time breathing cuz i was numb so talking was kinda tough. i got sick and man, was that hard!! i couldn't get it out cuz i couldn't get my muscles to work. it's amazing how much u use your abs! i got some drugs into my iv to calm my nausea and it went away. at the end, they rolled me onto my side to get me onto a gurney. i felt like i was going to fall onto the floor(the operating bed was really skinny). it was the craziest feeling! i was then taken into the recovery room where Nadine took care of me til the spinal wore off. for some reason that took awhile and it didn't wear off for a few hours after i had the surgery. i had to be rolled onto the bed in my room as well. the nurses who took care of us were amazed at my pain tolerance and how quickly i was back up and around. hey, what can i say, sitting still isn't my thing:) we would have come home sunday, but i think i over did it and felt like crap.
Vahn did awesome! the treatment worked. his platlet count was higher than mine! he ws born at 9:43 the 28th. he was 7 lbs 4 ozs and 19 inches long. thank God for the little miracles of life:) he lost some weight after a couple days, he got down to 6 lbs 9 ozs. he had to be supplemented for a few feedings then my milk came in and he went right back up. i was glad it came in at the hospital so i was on pain meds:) it was great to have that much time to bond with him not having to take care of the other ones. the only little difficulty is he's a sleepy baby. i think part of it is the pain medication i'm on. i have to nurse him more often cuz he always falls asleep and won't wake up. it's sooo nice to have a mellow snuggly baby after all we went thru with Cozette. he loooooves to be held. if he's put down, it won't be long til he starts to cry for someone to pick him up. he likes to lay on your chest…..he's immediatly calm and falls asleep.
all in all……..everything went sooooo much better than i was expecting!! between c-section and vaginal birth, i'm not sure which one i prefer more. both have thier plus and minuses. i would have to say tho that the healing process has been a wee challenge. Dr Wentross told Kevin he has to be the lazy nazi. he has to make sure i don't do much:) she said i will be at about 60% for the first few weeks, then about 2 months to get back to 80%, then the last little bit will take awhile. i'm thankful i have many who are willing to help and a honey who doesn't mind doing the house work and taking care of the kiddos.
